Introduction

The aim of this Lernobjekt is to expand your own awareness and command of vocabulary in a young learner context as a YLE[1]  teacher. It most definitely isn’t suggesting that you must teach these words: the aim is for you to consolidate and expand your YLE vocabulary.

Each chapter covers a topic, and is based on materials from the British Council Learn English Kids web site.

The topics are ones which often occur in YLE materials, and will give you a good basic vocabulary:

Family and feelings		At home		Everyday activities and actions
Food		Body and health		Clothes
School stuff		Free time activities		Music and IT
Animals, birds, pets and more		Insects, reptiles and more		The world around us
Places in town		Holidays, travel and transport		Describing people and things
Jobs and money		Festivals		Stories and imagination
General knowledge

Each chapter consists of links to some vocabulary games, links to other British Council resources from the same web site, and links to some extra worksheet activities that recycle and practice the vocabulary. See the user guide on the next page (below) for more detailed suggestions on how to use the chapters.

I created the extra worksheet activities (crosswords, word squares etc) using a web tool called Quickworksheets.
